Pollina Resort

Pollina (PA), Italy

The Pollina resort occupies a spectacular promontory on the Mediterranean. It comprises three different building types, constructed at various times from the 1970s onwards, and now has to respond to a changed idea of hospitality. The project began with a strategy for reorganising the resort: a way of putting the existing buildings — which can be neither altered nor extended — to new uses through a series of minor interventions, significantly transforming the guest experience and repositioning it towards luxury. The public spaces were upgraded and the rooms reworked at varying levels of intervention — from light refurbishment in the standard rooms to more substantial changes in the suites — in order to develop a room mix suited to the contemporary guest. The rooms were designed, alongside the architecture developed by Oneworks, to maximise the relationship with the landscape and the sea that surrounds the resort.

The project is developed with Oneworks as Lead Architect for Mangia’s group and HIP (Hotel Investment Partners). Mangia’s Group is an Italian hotel brand operating in the upper-upscale segment that manages 13 properties in Sicily and Sardinia, 4- and 5-star Resorts and Club accommodation. Mangia’s offers ideal destinations for guests looking for an authentic Italian vacanza. Hotel Investment Partners (HIP) is the leading investor in leisure hotels in southern Europe with more than 22.000 rooms located in the top tourist destinations of Spain, Italy, Greece and Portugal. HIP has 73 hotels located in the country’s top tourist destinations. 95% of rooms are leisure and 71% are located beachfront, operated by the sector’s leading brands: Marriott, Hyatt, Barceló, Melià and Lopesan, among others.
